Tarot Card Reading

Tarot card reading is basically about interpretations of the card combinations that come out of the deck. Tarot card reading provides insight on what’s going on in the present to enlighten the person involved and to inspire action.

Tarot card reading is rooted in the belief that cards can be used as tools to gain insight on the present, and on possible happenings in the future in relation to the present. The person to whom the cards are read is called the subject (of the tarot reading) or the “querent.”

Tarot is an example of cartomancy, which is defined as the use of cards in divination or in attempting to gain insight through cards.

A number of tarot card readers believe that a spiritual force guides them when reading tarot cards. This spiritual force, usually identified as Gaia, is believed to enlighten them on the meaning of the cards laid down to them in every session. Other tarot card readers, however, believe that the cards themselves are the ones that give the enlightenment, allowing cards an access to their unconscious, or to the creative brainstorming system of their subconscious.

Each card in a tarot deck is laden with meanings which are a product of years and years of evolution. The interpretations on Tarot cards are similar to concepts and ideas in alchemy and Kabbalah. As years passed, and as the tarot deck went from one culture to another, new meanings are added into the already semantically rich cards.

However numerous the meanings in each tarot card can be, it is up to the reader to make interpretations that are relevant to the subject of the reading.
