Skepticism on Dream Interpretation

At present, there are various meanings associated with dream interpretation. However, regardless of the type of dream interpretation being done, there are still many skeptics about the methods of dream interpretation.

One of the methods of dream interpretation is through the use of dream dictionaries. These dream dictionaries may be books published by dream researchers or these may be in the digital or online formats. The goal of these dream dictionaries is to interpret a person's dreams based on the key elements and characters that are present in the person's dream. It is believed that these elements hold meanings that may be interpreted through the use of these dictionaries. The rise of skepticism towards this method is due to the possibility of differences in the person's interpretation of the element. The meaning of each element may vary from one person to another. The same is also true due to differences in cultural beliefs.

This was the caution of many psychoanalysts about being hasty in interpreting a person's dreams. On the other hand, however, the dream theories of psychoanalysts led by Sigmund Freud, are also not entirely accepted by the scientific community. Although Freud's theories were based from scientific studies he conducted on several subjects, some of his methods remain to be in question by modern-day scientists. Also, the mathematical values of Freud's research may not be enough to make it a conclusive proof for dream interpretation. Due to lack of evidence, Freud's dream interpretation theories remain to be secondary to other psychological methods of study.
