Skepticism on Astrology
Despite the large portion of the population who believes in astrology, there are still many who think that astrology has no scientific basis and is purely a superstition. Although there are some researches done to prove the basis of astrology, these weren't sufficient enough to convince the people who are looking for scientific facts.
Although there were some attempts to study the scientific basis of astrology, many of them fail due to lack of funds. Another reason for the failure of the scientific research on astrology is that the scientists conducting the research have insufficient knowledge on astrology. On the other hand, there are some astrologers who conduct their own scientific study, however, their scientific knowledge is inadequate in proving astrology as a science.
The American Humanist Association, in 1975, published their criticism of astrology. According to the organization, there is no scientific basis for astrology and there are sufficient evidences to disprove it. In the twentieth century, researches on astrology were done by critic Geoffrey Dean and made documentation on natal astrology.
The Astronomical Society of the Pacific published an editorial on astrology concluding that they could not see a reason that celestial bodies can influence the life on earth. In a scientific study on astrology using controlled subjects, it was observed that the characteristics of persons born at the same time (time twins) were not influenced by the heavenly bodies. They also suggest that those who believe in the accuracy of astrology may just be focusing on the "hits" and overlook the characteristics that do not fit.
