People with ESP

People with ESP are commonly known as psychics, individuals who are able to gather information about the past, present, and future without the use of the normal senses. Psychics are also believed to possess other abilities such as the skill to manipulate objects from a distance, an ability known as telekinesis. The word "psychic" is Greek for "of the soul" and was apparently used for the first time by French astronomer Camille Flammarion. The word was later introduced to the English language by Edward William Cox.

Diviners and seers, people with ESP and other psychic abilities were popular and highly regarded fixtures in ancient cultures. The Bible contains accounts of kings and queens seeking counsel from seers and diviners. The advice of astrologers was also highly sought by people in the past. Egyptian priests played the role of seers who predicted what would happen in the future.

Perhaps one of the most famous of the clairvoyants is Nostradamus, a French apothecary and seer who published his predictions in the 1500s. His prophesies, although undated, usually featured disasters, calamities, wars, and deaths of famous personalities of his time and in the future.

More people with ESP have come out in recent times with the birth of Modern Spiritualism in Britain and the US. This movement believes that spirits of the dead can be reached by mediums who can relate their messages to the living. One such psychic was Daniel Dunglas Home who became known during the Victorian age due to his ability to communicate with the dead.
