Palm Reading and Fortune Telling

Fortune telling is the less popular reason for doing palm reading. Most people do palmistry for the purpose of cold reading or interpreting the person's characteristics based on the lines of the palm and on the shape of the hand.

Although fortune telling through palm reading is not as popular as cold reading, many palm readers still do this during the latter portion of reading the subject's palm. After reading the lines of the palm, the palmist would proceed to reading the mounts and this practice is called chirognomy.

If the lines are used to tell the person's traits, the mounts are used to foretell events in the person's life. The mounts may be found just below the fingers and each mount and finger is named after a god or goddess in the Greek mythology. The mount of Venus is just below the thumb. The mount of Jupiter is below the index finger. The middle finger is above the mount of Saturn. The ring finger is above the mount of Apollo, the sun god. The mount of Mercury is below the little finger. The center of the palm has the plain of Mars while the mount of Lower Mars is below the mount of Jupiter. Another mount, the Earth mount, is on the posterior part of the hand, the fleshy part when the index finger and the thumb are pushed towards each other. The lower part of the hand has the mount of Luna (the moon), which is below the pain of Mars.
