Meanings of Tarot Cards

Tarot card decks are divided into two main groups: the Minor (or Lesser) Arcana and the Major (or Greater) Arcana. In the tarot deck’s 78 cards, it is the 22 cards comprising the Major Arcana that are laden with rich meanings.

The Fool represents the start of a journey, often interpreted as a quest for power or knowledge.

The High Priestess is an embodiment of balance and power over one’s self.

The Empress represents love, nurturing, pleasure, and abundance. It’s a reminder that the world has enough blessings.

The Emperor stands for wisdom, authority, advice, and grounding.

The Hierophant is a reminder of the need to reassess faith, how it affects lives, and how belief systems are operated.

The Lovers embodies passion, sex, arousal, infatuation, and other similar concepts.

The Chariot signifies focus. It is a representation of determination to achieve a goal.

The Strength is a reminder of the need to renew the control over one’s inner self.

The Hermit is another representation of wisdom. This card symbolizes a slow but sure approach to making decisions and taking necessary actions.

The Wheel of Fortune means that there is a need for the subject to see the good in a negative situation.

The Justice is screaming a message from the conscience. It represents vices.

The Hanged Man symbolizes submission to will of a divine or Supreme Being.

The Death represents a catastrophic or drastic change in the subject’s life.

The Temperance embodies tolerance, patience, confidence, and wisdom.

The Devil signifies being hindered by desire.

The Tower represents a rude awakening.

The Star is a symbol of hope, faith, and meaning in life.

The Moon is warning for a time of confusion, uncertainty, and irregularity.

The Sun represents renewed trust, optimism, and clarity.

The Judgement marks the time for reaping what you have sown.

The World represents wholeness and harmony.
