Latent Telepathy

Latent telepathy is one type of telepathy characterized by the delay between the points during which the information was sent out and the time when it was received. Latent telepathy is also known as deferred telepathy and is one of the two types of telepathy which focuses on the time the messages were sent and received. The other type of telepathy under this category is precognitive telepathy, which involves receiving information from the future mind of the sender.

Latent telepathy, as well as the other forms of telepathy are studied in the field of parapsychology. There is some consensus among scientists that some forms of telepathy are real. However, there is also skepticism that some instances of supposed telepathic abilities are mere results of frauds, self-delusion, or organic brain malfunctions such as schizophrenia.

Studies on latent telepathy commonly utilize Zener cards, a sender, and a receiver. In a typical test for latent telepathy as with any other type of telepathy, the sender is located in one building and the receiver in another building. The sender then selects a random card from the deck of Zener cards, which contain drawings of psychic symbols, and the receiver attempts to determine the symbol with the use of telepathy. These tests have not escaped criticism and scrutiny and are thought to be vulnerable against sensory leakage and card counting. The Ganzfeld experiment is another test on telepathy. It involves the use of a sender who is placed in one location and sends messages to the receiver.
