How Tarot Card Works

Tarot involves 78 cards that the reader lays out into any of the many spreads for tarot reading. A spread refers to the layout or arrangement of cards, wherein each position has an assigned category of meaning.

Each card has its own set of meanings and spiritual energy and truth. The significance of a particular card depends on its position in the spread. Tarot makes use of the power of synchronicity to get into one’s subconscious and superconscious to be able to come up with a card arrangement that depicts the “truth” about the subject of the reading. The superconscious, the mind’s center of psychic abilities, works hand-in-hand with the subconscious to manipulate cards to reveal what the reader needs to know.

Tarot works best in answering queries that plain logic could not. Among these queries are those in relation to relationships, family, work dynamism, spiritual well-being, and politics.

Some of the most commonly used tarot spreads are the Celtic Cross and the three-card spread. The Celtic Cross spread is the most popular and the most common. These spread makes use of 10 cards: 5 of which are arranged in a cross, and four are laid out vertically beside the five. The last remaining card is placed across the central cards horizontally.

In a three-card spread, the first card represents the past, the second represents the present, and the third represents the future.

Other common spreads include the horseshoe spread, astrological spread, 1-card spread, tetractys, star spread, and mirror spread.

Tarot involves a complex set of interpretations depending on card meanings and their position on a spread. Reading and interpreting them requires mastery and concentration.
