Dream Interpretation

Dream interpretation is the process by which a meaning is assigned to a person's dream. Dream interpretation can be traced back to the ancient civilizations when dreams were believed to be a way of foretelling the future. Dreams, during that time, were believed to be a method by which a person receives divine intervention or a supernatural message. It was believed that only gifted people were capable of interpreting these messages that were sent through dreams.

At present, there are various ways of interpreting dreams. In fact, dream interpretation has crossed the border of pure divination into a scientific study of a person's way of thinking. To interpret dreams, a dream dictionary may be used. This is a list of the elements included in the dream and the interpretation for each element. Dream dictionaries may be classified into two -- the scientific and the conventional dream dictionaries.

Dream interpretation is believed to have its roots in ancient Greece and ancient Egypt. In ancient Greece, there is a temple called Asclepieions, in which sick people come to be cured. The cure for the person is achieved by diving grace given after the ritual for incubating dreams in the temple. On the other hand, dream interpretation in ancient Egypt was even recorded in the Bible. Joseph, a biblical character, was able to interpret dreams from God. This gift helped him save the city from the famine that the dreams foretold. Aside from these two civilizations, other cultures also believe that there is a divine intervention behind a person's dream.
