Accuracy of Palm Readings

The accuracy of palm reading remains to be questioned by scientists and skeptics. Of course, palm readers and those people who believe in chiromancy would defend the practice. The problem with these claims, however, is that there are no scientific studies done to prove these. Although there are studies done on palm reading, these are usually undertaken by people who believe in the reading and therefore, will be inclined to prove the accuracy of palm reading.

A problem in proving the accuracy of this cold reading method is that the palm readers and the believers are focusing on the aspects of the reading that coincide with their characteristics. If a person believes in the reading, he or she will find a way to relate the reading with an aspect of his or her personality. Because on the focus on how the reading could be factual, a person usually overlooks that there are also portions of the reading that does not agree with his or her personality. Another problem with this is that the person also tends to stretch the reading and tries to find a way on how the reading would mean something to his or her life.

Another aspect of palm reading is fortune telling, although this is not as popular as doing chiromancy for cold reading. Some psychologists and skeptics would say that the fortunes being read during palmistry have a large probability of coming true if the person believes in the reading. Therefore, a person's belief in palm reading will affect the accuracy of this practice.
